Dota 2 will have cosmetic items that a player can use to equip his favorite Dota 2 hero. The Dota 2 items can be obtained via item drops or bought from the Dota 2 store.

Like all other games in the Dota genre, Dota 2 will be free to play. The thing that sets Dota 2 apart from the competition is that, all items will be purely cosmetic. There will be no need to purchase heroes like in Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends.
Dota 2 backpack
Dota 2 will have a backpack system similar to the one applied in Team Fortress 2. Players will be able to purchase virtual items from Valve's Dota 2 store and trade unique Dota 2 items with their friends.
