Heroes of Newerth 2.0 Sneak Peek

HoN 2.0 Sneak Peek

Kalamazoo, Michigan
- Heroes of Newerth, an online video game known for it's hardcore and competitive community is introducing changes to help casual players improve their HoN experience. The changes will also provide ways for players who are new to the Dota genre to learn the basics of the game before jumping into standard play.

HoN 2.0 UI Sneak Peek
Casual Mode
Casual Mode will be aimed at the multitudes of League of Legends players who have converted to Heroes of Newerth. This mode aims to help in the transition by eliminating the gold penalty on death and and by tinkering with the creep deny mechanics. Stats for casual mode will be separated from Standard mode.

-Elimination of Gold Penalty on Death

If you die, you don't lose gold.

-Creeps and Experience
Denies by enemy players will still give you full experience.

New Map (Grimms Crossing)
Grimms Crossing is a 3v3 map aimed at encouraging players to have quick fights. The map is designed to be small and narrow to offer little incentive to turtle and grind. Data from the internal beta testing of Grimms Crossing has shown that the new map has been averaging double the kill rate of the standard 5v5 Forests of Caldavar map over the same period of time.

Match Making Overhaul
Solo Matchmaking and Team Matchmaking are now available. The improved matchmaking aims to not only match the overall performance of the teams, but also the relative performance of the players within a single HoN team. Overall, the goal of the new Heroes of Newerth matching system is to ensure skill balance within a team as well as between the two opposing teams.

Improved User Interface
The classic HoN interface which has won the approval of a number of Starcraft 2 players discontented with BattleNet 2.0 has gotten a facelift. All the important functions have remained but improvements were done to meet S2's Goal of reducing the number of clicks needed to perform a given function.

-Interactive Minimaps
You may now hover over a dot on the minimap to see the unit's name, life points and mana points. If it's a hero, the inventory slot will also be displayed.

In-game Shop for Customization
Unlike in League of Legends, all items sold in the shop will not affect the gameplay in any way. It will be purely cosmetic. There will be no items to boost in-game hero and item stats and all the champions will be available for free.

Items available:
-Basic tags (country flags, hero icons, name color)
-Alternate hero skins
-Custom Announcer pack

Transactions for the in-game shop are done via coins. Coins can either be purchased by real money or earned in-game. It is entirely possible to purchase every item in the store without laying out a single cent of real cash.

Map Editor
HoN will be releasing a map editor for the HoN modding community. A lot of players will be expecting popular Warcraft 3 custom maps like Tower Defense, Fufu Ninja, RPGs and other Dota-type maps.

Heroes of Newerth 2.0 is a free update for all HoN players.

  7. lol, except HoN really is and always will be bad.

I played DotA for like 2 years then played HoN and it wasn't just bad but LOLBAD. LoL is so much better than HoN, don't matter though once DotA2 comes out both of these games will be swept into the garbage bin.

  11. HoN Community isn't that bad. Grow some skin. Even If I was able to be influenced by the players in said game, I would have to say I'd take HoN pubs over LoL pubs. In LoL you can just leave without penalty.

  12. The UI, Gameplay, Map or anything else in HoN is not the problem. It's the jack a** community, it's 100x worse than Dota ever was. It's like a massive arena filled with 13-17 year old kids who watch WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Too many kids these days

  14. blc>lol>hon get rid of the towers and items, pure skill arena pvp, no rng bullsh!t

  15. LOL @ this article. Who wrote this, HoN's marketing department?

    ReplyDelete
  16. That's it! I'm buying HoN!

    ReplyDelete
  17. There's a reason IGN never rated HoN and Lol has an 8.0 "impressive" rating.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The article is slightly misleading at one point. It remarks that the shop in HoN won't sell any items that affect gameplay, unlike in LoL, without clarifying that in LoL real life currency can only be used to purchase new champions or cosmetic skins, with the minor stat-buffing runes (and champions as well) being purchasable with a second form of currency obtained solely through playing the game.
TL;DR: You can't buy your way to power in LoL like this article seemed to imply.

  19. 90% of the features here are from lol.

dota 2 will kill hon. GG noobs.

  20. get some originality stop copying other games

    ReplyDelete
  21. Actually LoL is Pay 2 Power game
You need to BUY BUY BUY in order to get an edge. (Name me a Level 30 LoL player who plays in LoL tournaments without BUYING stuff)

    ReplyDelete
  22. There is no need to buy stuff. The runes you cant buy with money, the skins you dont need, and the heroes can be unlocked. If you play 4-5 heroes you can unlock them rather fast, without mass gaming.

    ReplyDelete
  23. First off - the stuff you buy with money is purely cosmetic. Everything else is earned with points you get from playing games. It's an integral part of the leveling/learning process. This update just smacks of desperation. HoN is different and while not a bad game, it is getting a bad rap for only copying from other games in the genre. after a while... that's all you become. A copycat game. A nice game, but never the original. Titan Quest to Diablo etc.

  24. You used the wrong 'its.' I stopped reading immediately.

  25. at all the dumb a**** saying LoL's shop doesnt give advantages i have two things to say. first RUNES ARE IN THE SHOP regardless if you can buy them with or without cash does not matter, they give clear advantages in the game. Levels in LoL give clear advantages. Finally if you are a cash shopper in LoL you have no need to buy champions with ip, you get ip faster, and thus you will have more runes than any1 else for the amount of time you spent playing that game. More runes = more advantage for you. I'll stick with the game that has more tournaments, has more heroes, and has more balance that that kiddo LoL game.

    ReplyDelete
  26. i hate this hon game, why do we need to pay for your game, unlike dota. dota is better than this and when dota 2 released, people will forget this game.

    ReplyDelete
  27. ^you probably haven't played HoN then...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Are you LoL lovers that dense? I play both games, and after this update it will be mostly HoN. LoL is NOT free. To get a single 6300 IP champion(Half of new champions are this price) you need to play 40-50 games. An average of 30 minutes per game means 22.5 hours of your LIFE spent playing this game to get ONE CHAMPION. You can work at minimum wage and make enough money to buy the champion and have plenty of cash left over. Don't ever say LoL is free. It's only free for people without a job and lots of free time. basically, kids and losers.

  29. Legends of Newerth.. Booom!!!! there you go.. the debate is ovaaaa...

You're forgetting that free Champ rotation means you still get to play plenty of powerful Champions every week without paying (Vladimir just last week for instance) while being given the option of unlocking Champions for free. Also, between the free IP boosts they hand out, win of the day, finish streak and other bonuses it ends up being pretty damn easy to unlock even 6300 IP Champions.

  31. HoN Pwns LoL...FACT

    ReplyDelete
  32. Basicly therare features int he upcomming version that would be spawned from observing the surrounding games in the ganre, well this is the basic concept on any business strategy, shop owners go to other shops and looup prices, apple, HTC, Nokia etc copy layout and features in cellphone software. it's only natural S2G would look into what sells on the market at the current state and implement it.
Personally, I've played DotA variations, LoL and HoN, and from all of them I would choose HoN 10/10 times. it has a smother gameplay then any of the others in the genre and it offers the gameplay to be decided from teamwork and skill instead of levels and runes like in LoL. and don't get me started on DotA, it was a great concept of gameplay but the power of WC3 limited the game to souch an extent it just wasn't enjoyable. and HoN stepped over that limit line and made a great game, unless DotA2 makes one heck off a game I will continue to spend my time on HoN

  33. Dota 2.0 going to su** on valves sh***y servers GG I'd rather play a dumb down LoL game then a laggy ass Dota game. Enjoy your sh***y $50 Dota 2 game dotards

  34. LoL- sh** graphics, a guy comes along with lvl 20 and pwns you with something he bought in the game shop!
HoN- no f**kin buy the power to pwn. Here you must have SKILL to pwn.
    LoL HAS NO SKILL!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. LoL is about the worst game ever, I don't know what It takes for people to admit it. I have it, ive played it. Ive gone 20-0 in it, and its still garbage.

    ReplyDelete
  36. hey guyss can u give me a hon beta key
    this is my email tatz_menots@yahoo.com

  37. I play both HoN and LoL and HoN has a LOT more polish. Annoying thing about HoN are the gamers are often really hardcore and hammer you relentlessly if you make a mistake. The game engine in HoN is clearly superior to anything else at the moment. LoL is also fun but the graphics need a lot of work though I've found the people to be more friendly. The ability to report abuse and the casual mode have and will help HoN tremendously. HoN has an advantage at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Truly all u hon fag's are annoying as sh** Ok so S2 wanted a new game to continue there Savage 2 franchise...alot of there staff played dota for many years and asked for permission to continue the game, with updated interface and such, TADA HoN
LoL, Guinsoo and pendragon, both essential members of creating Dota both got a job at riot and suggested the creation of a new Dota off the many things that were complained about in dota and made a new game. free just like Dota, with the new option to pay, The same kill towers push win strategy but the rest of the game is totally revamped.

HoN same as dota just inexperienced company with a big title, they have a shop now oooo "lol"?
LoL New game, Was never supposed to be a copy But a continuation. new direction, new features, Graphics, Woopdy doo! Dota graphics suck and yet there are still tournaments going on there.

    ReplyDelete
  39. ^
HoN = Bad representation of Dota
LoL = Continuation / New game

Anon is Right HoN is bad

    ReplyDelete
  40. ah arent the HoN-bashers cute?

think guys, dota2 will be copycat too!!1 and at this a much worser one if they are implementing any of the features the other games in the genre have.

if you say now that dota2 is obv the continuation of dota and has the right to copy it becouse of Icefrog, then I say you now that HoN has the same right to do so _becouse_ Icefrog was involved in their development too

    and now the best thing:
    it doesnt even matter!
you know, I dont have a sandy vagina becouse my fav game copied some other game, I just have fun with it.

and atm its just HoN> Dota > LoL for me

    ReplyDelete
  41. how is HoN better than LoL? i was on since their beta testing days

    lol is still better >.>

    ReplyDelete
  42. fact: 90% of people posting in this are hon fanboy.

    no point arguing with them

  43. http://heroesofnewerth.com/ref.php?r=QDR10N1M

Go through that link for bonuses in your account (like free goblin coins, etc.) Whatever is the current promotion is what will be applied. All promotions end soon though, so I suggest you get it quick while they still count it as new years.

    ReplyDelete
  44. anyone who says HoN is garbage are noobs that cant adapt to the game and LoL isn't that bad either
