The Emergence of the Dota Genre

The Dota Genre (Starcraft Origins)
It all started with the Aeon of Strife (AoS), a Starcraft UMS from a long long time ago.
And from that seed, came forth a new video game genre.

The Dota Genre (Warcraft 3 Golden Age)
Eul is widely credited for making the 1st game called DOTA in the Warcraft III engine.
But with the release of the expansion, The Frozen Throne, it was Steve "Guinsoo" Feak who prevailed with the most popular DotA derivative called DotA All-Stars.

After the release of the 5.84b, True.Rus stepped in to provide an unofficial fix (5.84c) to the long loading times of DotA All-Stars. This prompted Guinsoo to release the next version under DotA 6 series. After 6.01, Guinsoo left the Warcraft III modding community.

For all the contributions Eul and Guinsoo provided, it was Icefrog who brought DotA to it's peak. Remaking the map from scratch, Icefrog introduced faster map loading times, new heroes and content, and improved game balance.

The Dota Genre (Warcraft 3 DotA Aftermath)
The success of DotA sparked an influx of Dota based games.
